Teodora Barbić

Visual Artist
01 — About Teodora

Painting what words can’t reach.

Teodora Barbić is a visual artist from Montenegro whose work moves between figuration and abstraction — emotion as space, motion as colour, the silence between two strokes.

She paints in acrylic on canvas and draws in graphite and coloured pencil, producing original works for private collectors, public institutions and the spaces designed around them. Each piece is one of one — signed, dated, and documented with a certificate of authenticity.

“I want each painting to hold the room a little quieter than it found it.”

Her works have been gifted to ministries and members of diplomatic missions, and live in private collections across Montenegro and the European Union.

„Echoes of Existence” Odjeci postojanja

Teodora Barbić’s first solo exhibition, Echoes of Existence, marked her official entry onto the professional art scene of Montenegro. Held in the foyer of the Centre for Culture Tivat, it drew significant attention from the public, cultural institutions and media.

The exhibition consisted of around twenty works in acrylic on canvas and pencil drawing, conceptually divided into two cycles.

Echoes of Souls — a series of hyperrealist close-up portraits through which the artist explores emotion, psychological state and the individual story of each subject. The focus on expression, gaze and subtleties of light gives the portraits a powerful emotional presence.

The second cycle, Echoes of Eternity, is built on landscape motifs and an exploration of the relationship between the human being and space, transience and a universal sense of connection.

Opening the exhibition, art theorist Nina Milićević highlighted Teodora’s „serious, authentic and sincere artistic approach” — singling out an unusual maturity in composition, aesthetics and proportion, and her sensitivity to hyperrealist depiction, light refraction and shadow, describing her talent as an expression of artistic maturity beyond her years.

The artist herself describes this exhibition as an introspective journey through emotion, growth and inner states — noting that her paintings „are not only looked at, but listened to like music or silence”, each carrying its own rhythm and story.

250 years of education in Montenegro

„Spark of Knowledge” Iskra znanja

Teodora Barbić’s second solo exhibition was realised to mark 250 years of education in Montenegro — bringing together cultural heritage and a contemporary artistic voice.

At the centre of the show were portraits of educators and works inspired by the meaning of education, through which the artist explores the relationship between collective memory, identity and future.

Through vibrant tones, precise technique and an emotional approach to the portrait, this cycle symbolically connected past and future — art as a medium for preserving values, culture and memory.

The exhibition was recognised as a significant contribution to the marking of an important anniversary, further affirming the artistic and cultural importance of her work.

Technique & Approach

Hyperrealism, light, and the inner life.

Critics consistently single out Teodora’s precision with shadow, light and detail — especially in pencil drawing and hyperrealist portraiture. Her works are marked by a strong emotional atmosphere and technical exactness, where every detail functions as a carrier of psychological and symbolic narrative.

Her practice can be defined as a meeting of hyperrealism and emotional introspection — technical perfection is not an end in itself, but a means of conveying inner states, silence and presence.

Public Appearances & Engagement

International representation & art colonies

One of Teodora Barbić’s most notable public engagements was her international representation in Skopje, where she took part in an international art colony as a representative of young artists of Montenegro. The residency further positioned her name on the regional art scene and introduced her as an artist of a new generation who joins technical precision with emotional depth in a contemporary voice.

Interviews & media presence

Teodora is a regular presence in the media through interviews, appearances and cultural features — speaking about her creative process, hyperrealism, artistic philosophy and the relationship between art and personal growth. In her public appearances she particularly emphasises the importance of art as a means of understanding emotion, identity and a person’s inner world, for which she is often recognised as one of the most promising young artists of the contemporary Montenegrin scene.

About the school

Art Corner Kreativa

In a time of fast content, short attention and a world where children increasingly grow up with screens, creativity becomes much more than a hobby — it becomes a way of healthy development, expression and understanding of the world.

Children with portrait drawings on craft paper

Art Corner Kreativa was born from the idea that art does not serve only the learning of drawing and painting, but the development of a child’s personality, self-confidence and way of thinking. Through work with children and adults, the goal of the school is not to make perfect drawings, but to create a space where a child learns to observe, feel, explore and trust their own idea.

The programme is built on the development of creative and critical thinking through art. Through drawing and painting, children develop concentration, patience, problem-solving and visual perception — skills increasingly threatened by constant exposure to fast digital content and passive consumption of information.

Numerous studies in psychology and neuroeducation show that creative activities activate different parts of the brain at once, connecting logical and intuitive thinking. While academic education often focuses on the reproduction of information, art encourages children to think independently, make decisions and develop emotional intelligence.

Through the process of creation, children learn that a mistake is not a failure but part of the process. That is exactly why art plays an important role in the development of self-confidence and emotional stability. A child who learns to freely express an idea on paper often more easily expresses emotions, opinion and attitude outside the art space too.

A particular focus is on an individual approach to each student. Instead of template drawing, children learn to understand form, light, composition and space — and to develop their own visual identity and way of expression.

The atmosphere of the school is built on support, freedom to create and the feeling of safety, because creativity grows most where the child has no fear of mistake or comparison.

Alongside technical development, art returns to children focus, presence and the ability to deeply observe the world around them — something contemporary society increasingly pushes aside. In a world full of distractions, the process of drawing and painting becomes a moment of silence, concentration and connection with one’s own thoughts.

Art Corner Kreativa is not imagined only as a painting school, but as a space where children develop imagination, emotional freedom and inner self-confidence through art.

The founder of the school, visual artist Teodora Barbić, through her approach to art seeks to pass on to children not only technical knowledge, but the feeling that creativity is not a talent reserved for individuals — but a natural way in which a child gets to know themselves and the world around them.
